Journal 2 - Another Contemporary Hero

The character Beowulf reminds me of Eli from the movie “The Book of Eli.”  In the movie Eli is charged with the task of delivering the last copy of the Bible to the West Coast.  He lives in a post-apocalyptic world where people are nomadic and scavengers who often resort to stealing from other people or killing them.  There is also a man named Carnegie who runs an unnamed town and is searching for the last copy of the bible so he can use it to control the people of his town and expand, and is willing to kill to get it.  Because of this, Eli faces death in almost every place he goes, though he is determined to reach his goal and deliver the bible.  This character reminds me of Beowulf because they both have incredible abilities to face evil, Eli having his keened senses and Beowulf having his strength.  They also face evil to save something, Eli facing the murderous people of his world to save the bible, and Beowulf facing Grendel to save the Danes.  Thus, I believe these characters somewhat resemble each other.
